9/11 Anniversary: 10 Years Later

TEN YEARS LATER, IS AMERICA MUCH SAFER THAN BEFORE??? This is the big sign of interrogation in the lots of minds. Lowcountry residents will never forget 9/11 and are planning a variety events to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

Throughout the county and the country, for one minute at 1 p.m., first responders, houses of worship, towns and others will hold a moment of silence followed by the sound of sirens and bells in a signal to each of us to "stop and remember" the 10th anniversary of the tragedies of Sept. 11, 2001 and pay tribute to those we lost.

New York City will honor those lost in both September 11 and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing with events around the city including art exhibits, church services, and walking tours.

Since 2001, hotel and retail services increased 10%, and tourists and business travelers now have the choice of 18 hotels - triple the number that existed in 2001 -- with seven more new hotels slated for opening in the coming year, according to the Alliance for Downtown New York.
